Classes at Chatham
Academy are designed to help each student succeed.
The small class size (9 or 10 students per class)
allows teachers to provide the individual attention
that leads to successful learning. Throughout the
classes teachers provide consistent expectations so
that students develop good learning habits.
In the elementary and middle school grades student
take a full curriculum consisting of reading, math,
social studies, science, English and P.E. The
emphasis of each class is based on the student’s
learning needs. For those with decoding or word
reading difficulty, a structured reading method is
used. Programs designed by Lindamood – Bell, Wilson,
The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Center or Orton
Gillingham may be used. These methods are then
incorporated in the other classes to reinforce
learning.
In the high school classes, the subject areas are
broken in small steps. Each student learns the
content while strengthening their reading, writing
and study skills. Becoming an independent learner is
a major goal in each class. |
