We give our students a variety of
different enrichment opportunities both in school
and on field trips.
Visual Arts
Chatham Academy students are lucky to have Ms. Annie
Gay as their art instructor. Through art Ms. Gay
challenges the students to think outside of the box
and to sometimes color outside of the lines! Her
unique and interesting projects not only stimulate
right brain activity, but teach the students
technique, history, and the value of art in our
society! Without Art at Chatham Academy, the
hallways and even ceilings would not be the same!
SPAL
Chatham Academy is a member of The Savannah
Parochial Athletic League which offers middle school
girls and boys the opportunity to participate in a
interschool sports program. Based on the number of
interested athletes, the students can participate in
girls and boys basketball, girls and boys soccer,
girls volleyball and softball and boys baseball.
Flag Football
Flag football teams, ages 9-11 and
12-14, played in the local league as well as the
regional and national tournament across United
States. They have played against teams from
Jacksonville and Atlanta in our league each year.
This past year, we participated in the Baltimore
Regional Tournament, which we won. We then advanced
to the National Tournament of Champions comprised of
seven other regional champions across the United
States including Albany, New York, Las Vegas,
Nevada, Los Angeles, California, Atlanta, Georgia,
Indianapolis, Indiana, Jacksonville, Florida, and
Oak Ridge, California. This was our third
consecutive trip to the National Tournament of
Champions. This past year, we fielded the best team
ever and finished fifth. The national tournament was
held at Wide World of Sports complex at Disney
World. The tournament was also televised by ESPN.
Our players were treated to day park pass at Animal
Kingdom and an elaborate banquet afterwards. The
kids had a wonderful time with lifetime memories to
share with their old and new friends in Orlando. The
team winning the Tournament of Champions represents
United States in the international tournament called
the World Bowl. This past summer, it was held in
Germany.
Soccer
Seventh grade and
under students had the chance to learn soccer skills
and sportsmanship while playing games in a
non-competitive league. They played students from
St. Francis Catholic School and the military
community teams from Hunter Army Airfield. We had
over 15 teams participating this past spring season.
We expect to double the amount of teams for Fall
League when the new school year resumes in September
2007.
Baseball
Chatham Academy
fielded a spring baseball team for the seventh and
under league, which went undefeated for the first
time. The players improved on their skills from
strong hitting, fielding, and strategy throughout
the season. We played machine-pitch as well as
coach-pitch in our league. The parents were very
supportive of our players throughout the season with
their commitment to help out with drinks and snacks.
Basketball
We had our first
team in the SPAL league with other small private
schools in Savannah. We won our first game ever
against the Veritas on our second game of the
season. The players practiced and played very hard
throughout the season. It was an exciting year for
Chatham Academy and everyone who was part of
2005-2006 basketball season. We hope to have a team
for seventh and eighth grades next year.
